Fate – Which Kind of Person are You?

3 min read

Good morning, y’all.

I feel I should warn you, this post is more of a rambling. Just thoughts in my head that managed to find their way to my website. Bastards…

Today was supposed to be a post about the fabulous trip I took to Mexico with my husband and some wonderful friends of ours a few weeks ago, but alas…it seems something else was just meant to be. 😉

So here’s my question for you on this lovely Thursday morning…do you believe in fate? If no, why not? If yes, do you believe EVERYTHING is fate? Or just bits and pieces here and there throughout your life?

I think for me, yes, I absolutely 110% believe in fate. To what degree? Well, I’m still figuring that out.

I’m not someone who thinks everything is destined to happen at the exact moment it happens, or that our entire lives are planned out to the smallest detail…but I also can’t wrap my head around everything being pure coincidence.

Do I believe there are coincidences? Sure. But I also believe that sometimes it’s more, especially when it comes to the people in my life. The ones that enrich my world with love and happiness, the ones who cause pain and heartache, even those who manage to do both. Because ultimately those people, the good and bad, tend to shape us in one way or another. We grow from those experiences and we, hopefully, move on…but they’re still there within us.

My favorite movie ever is without a doubt the M. Night Shyamalan masterpiece (yes I said masterpiece), Signs. I own it, but I never see it on TV. Maybe it’s on a million times a day, I’m just saying I never see it on. Well lately it seems like anytime my mind is going astray, or I’m struggling with something, I turn on the TV and the damn movie is on. Not like I’m searching around and I find it…I’m saying I press ON and boom, there it is. SIGNS. At first it was kind of funny, and now it’s just exhausting. Like, “Yes, I get it. Thank you for that, but it’s SO not helping.”

For anyone not familiar with this movie, here’s the description from IMDB. A family living on a farm finds mysterious crop circles in their fields which suggests something more frightening to come. (I’ll just stick with their description, because I HATE spoilers!)

Now it could be total coincidence that this has happened multiple times now, albeit a weird as fuck coincidence, but coincidence nonetheless. BUT…I don’t think it is. Yes, I’m that person, do not roll your eyes at me. lol

One of my favorite scenes is when Graham (Mel Gibson) and Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix) are sitting in front of the TV discussing the appearance of the lights (spaceships?) on the news. Without giving too much away, Graham used to be a person who believed in miracles and was full of hope, but now he’s not. His brother, Merrill, tells him he’s scared, and wishes Graham could be like his old self again and offer some comfort. Then this wonderful, amazing, beautiful speech happens:

Well…there you have it. So I guess the question is, which kind of person are you?

As for me, even though I will never have all the details worked out, I think Merrill said it best:

“Oh yeah, I’m a miracle man.”
